Tapehead City is about to celebrate Death Row Records ’30th birthday.
And is there a more 90’s way of doing it than reissuing four cassettes of the projects that are at the core of every hip-hop head ever lived?
The collection is formed by Death Row classics: Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg, 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me, and his subsequent work The Don Killuminati (The 7 Day Theory). Like vinyl, the tapes offer a fun opportunity for labels to choose matching colors for the artwork and mood of the albums themselves, and Tapehead has chosen shades that are unique to these special editions.
The Chronic will be available in the following editions: “standard” white with blue imprint, “chronic” green, and “up in smoke” smoke tint.
Doggystyle also has a “chronic” option, as well as “gin and juice” dark yellow and the”fruit juice” red.
Meanwhile, All Eyez On Me will be available only in translucent red, and Killuminati will be published in gold.
Besides, all four editions will receive a “prison tape” release: clear cover, transparent lining, and no J-card (album cover).
The cassettes will start shipping on April 20, but you can get an advantage and pre-order all of them at the moment.
Earlier this year, Trump did a good thing by pardoning Death Row co-founder Michael “Harry O” Harris, who had been jailed for 30 years on a 25-to-life sentence on a conspiracy to commit murder charge. A week earlier, Dr. Dre had, fortunately, survived his trip to the Intensive Care Unit after a brain aneurysm.
